Privacy-first processing

Where supported, tools run locally in your browser. Your files are not uploaded to our servers from these pages.

Some tools may rely on third-party libraries loaded from CDNs; review your browser settings and our privacy policy for details.

Start with these common workflows

If you are not sure which tool to use, pick a workflow below and follow the steps. These are the scenarios we see most: uploads to portals, email attachments, and preparing clean files for printing.

1) “My PDF is too large to upload”Compress PDF → if still large, try Extract pages to submit only the required pages.

2) “I must send multiple PDFs as one file”Merge PDF → then Add page numbers for long packets.

3) “I need text from a PDF”Extract text → or open PDF to Word (DOCX) on the PDF Tools page.

4) “My image is too big for a form”Image tools → crop first, then compress for best quality.

How to choose the right tool (quick guide)

Compression reduces file size. It is best when you must meet a limit (e.g., 2MB / 10MB).

Conversion changes format (e.g., JPG→PDF). Do this when a portal requires a specific type.

Editing changes the document structure (merge/split/reorder/delete pages). Do this when the recipient needs fewer pages or a specific order.

Tip: A scanned PDF behaves like a stack of images. For the biggest savings, reduce scan resolution at the source (scanner/export settings) and only then compress.

For detailed guidance, see: PDF size limits and how to compress without blur.

Quality and transparency

Each tool page explains what it does, what it cannot do, and how your file is handled. If a workflow requires a specific browser capability or third-party library, that is stated on the page. This helps you make an informed choice before you process documents.

If you discover a broken link or a tool that does not behave as described, please report it via Contact with the exact URL and your browser version.

How Compress It Small Works: Local Processing, Clear Workflows, Better Upload Success

Compress It Small is built to help you pass strict file upload limits with a clean user experience. Most tools run locally in your browser when technically possible.

Choose a category

Recommended workflow

  1. Check the limit with Upload Limit Checker.
  2. Reduce content first (remove/extract pages, crop images).
  3. Compress last to keep quality readable.
  4. Verify the final size.

All Free Online File Tools — Privacy-First, No Upload Required

Every tool on this site runs inside your browser. Your files are processed locally — they are never uploaded to our servers, never stored in a database, and never accessible to anyone except you. Close the browser tab and all traces of your file disappear from memory automatically.

PDF tools

The most-used category: compress, merge, split, rotate, extract pages, delete pages, reorder pages, add page numbers, watermark, and redact. Also convert between formats: PDF to JPG, PDF to PNG, JPG to PDF, and extract text from PDF.

Image tools

Compress, resize, convert, crop, and watermark images — JPG, PNG, and WEBP all supported.

Office and data tools

Convert between office formats: text to DOCX, text to PDF, Excel to CSV, CSV to Excel, CSV to JSON, JSON to CSV, and format/validate JSON.

Built for real submission and upload workflows

These tools exist because file size limits, format requirements, and portal restrictions are genuine friction points — in PhD applications, visa submissions, job applications, scholarship forms, and everyday document sharing. Each tool is designed for the specific task it performs, with clear outputs and no unnecessary steps. If a task cannot be done reliably in-browser, the tool will say so explicitly rather than produce unreliable results.
